In the punishing throes of the recent heatwaves we decided that it would be a great idea to get ourselves even more sunshine so booked a fly-and-flop week to a Greek island of our choice where we hadn’t been before so alighted on Skiathos.

I came to realise once we were there that we were on the near neighbour of the more famous Skopolos where they filmed Mamma Mia – not that you’d know (he said ironically…!) were it not for the plethora of noisy cruises and the ubiquitous background hum of Abba songs at the port.

Generous Easyjet luggage allowances enabled me to take my relatively new Nikon Z5ii along with a couple of lenses (the Z24-200mm F4-F6.5 and my Z28mm f2.8) as well as having my iPhone 17Pro and its Fjorden Grip as a walk-around.

I even packed a mini tripod with the thought I’d be up some hill looking down on idyllic twinkling harbour lights at night but sadly the lure of the excellent tavernas curtailed that lofty intention (and there wasn’t a suitable hill) so I contented myself with just wandering around the port one evening in glorious golden light and snapped at whatever caught my eye.

I really like taking photos at night. I’ve got a companion website (quietnightlens.com) which is a portfolio of my more showcase images but I’m just as happy shooting inconsequential night scenes wherever I am.

I’ll add more photos to this post as I get through editing them but this is a start…
